Calgary's ENCORE Death Cafe

Calgary's First Death Cafe was a hit!

The Death Cafe was a hit with thirty-five guests, enthusiastically engaged for three hours in animated conversation about life and death, and all with yummy cakes and coffee.

The number one favourite cake? Caramel Apple Coffee Cake from Julie Van Rosendaal's fab blog "Dinner with Julie" - check it out!

Carol Beecher and Kevin Kurtynik's animation "Mr. Reaper's REALLY Bad Morning" was another hit, with Carol's introduction and Q&A kicking off the small group discussions.

Zoey Duncan's delightful article in the Calgary Herald created a buzz! More than two dozen last-minute RSVP's were not able to get into the already "sold out" event.

 Hence, Calgary's ENCORE Death Cafe:

  1. I was one of the attendees at the first Death Café and would highly recommend it. Wendy did an excellent job of facilitating: she created a safe, respectful environment; shared just enough to get the discussions going; and then stepped back and gave time for in-depth discussions to develop at each table (which they did!). It was refreshing to be able to explore, what to many (sadly) is a “taboo” subject. At the Death Café, you could explore ideas, belief, thoughts, and perceptions about death openly with people who were also interested in having deep, insightful discussions. It was a very eye-opening and life-affirming experience.

    With gratitude,

    Diane
